Landscape Design of Qatar Petroleum Beach and Boating Club – Doha by Urban Land Studio. Urban Land Studio were approached directly by SOM on this project to produce a scheme for a large private beach and boating club on a purpose built resort island for employees of Qatar petroleum.

Our approach to the design was guided by the strong architectural forms of the building which were based on a Voronoi diagram. We also used references drawn from Arabic geometric patterns which leant themselves well to the cellular patterns created by the Voronoi diagram.

The overall cellular structure sets cut the framework of the varied landscape elements and recreational uses that were required from the brief. Each cell was then broken down further into a hierarchy cf functions and planting needs.

A string of pools threads it self thrcugh the site, which are in parts covered with light canopy structures. The design stage of the project is well advanced and we are now entering the detail design stage.
