Graphic Design Architecture of CEAC Cuba by JesticoWhiles. Jestico + Whiles has been commissioned to design the main reception building on this new scientific research campus located on the outskirts of Havana.

The focus of research will be on renewable energy and the biomedical application of nanotechnology. The brief is for a 2000sqm iconic building housing a 180 seat lecture theatre, café and terrace, offices, ancillary accommodation and links to the adjacent laboratory buildings.

The design responds to its tropical climate with an over-sailing curved reinforced concrete roof which announces the entrance to the campus and provides solar shading and thermal mass.

Penetrating up through this roof, a dramatic conical form houses the lecture theatre and acts as a landmark for the campus. Internally, a naturally ventilated double height space accommodates the entrance foyer and café.
