Construction Design of National College for School Leadership, University of Nottingham by Hopkins Architects. The building provides conferences and training courses for head teachers, with social and academic facilities and one hundred rooms for residential accommodation.
Sitting at the head of the new lake and enjoying views across it, the siting of the College takes advantage of the new environment created by the Jubilee Campus. The building combines three units of accommodation, each consisting of a central public space and an atrium, which rises 3 storeys high.
There are seminar rooms off each side on the ground floor and study bedrooms on the two upper floors. These units are linked together by lofty single-storey volumes at ground floor level, which on one side, house a dining room and on the other, an auditorium.
The school reception, bar and main social space are in the central atrium, which has the IT hub protruding into it. Grouping the private rooms around the public functions gives the college easy interaction, suitable for its intense, short courses. This project was a joint venture between the Government’s Department for Education & Skills and the University.
