Building Exterior of Alameda County Water District Water Quality Laboratory by MWA Architects. This new 7,200 square foot single-story laboratory replaces 3,000 square feet of laboratory space within the ACWD headquarters building.
The latest laboratory technology is incorporated into the design to serve a population of 320,000 and meet projected District growth over the next 25 years.
The new building is designed to blend into the context of the existing 70s-style campus and sits adjacent to the headquarters building allowing for easy access between the two structures.
The design steps down from a large volume to a more humanly scaled entrance and incorporates canopies to shield from solar gain while allowing light to penetrate.
