Building Design of DRIVE THRU RECYLING CENTRE (DTRC) for RESOURCE NSW by Arena Design Architects. This project was part of the Resource NSW Strategic Plan designed to deliver an ecologically sustainable platform for a new waste resource management system.
The facility was designed for discarding and receival of all types of material and provides convenient and readily available discard options for all members of the community. Aerial view of digital model featuring roundabout entry, main building with peripheral canopy roofs, marshalling area for heavy containers at rear and heritage-listed bungalow (to be converted into an Environmental Learning Centre).
The brief for the facility was as follows:
- To develop an iconic prototype centre on a major highway route in Western Sydney.
- For the centre to be easy to use and simple to understand by a multi-cultural community.
- For the centre to demonstrate the environmental reasons and concepts behind the facility.
- Physical accommodation was to include heavy dinosaur bins, lighter ‘bottle bins’, a salvage facility, administrative offices and education/seminar facilities in a Heritage listed building adjacent as well as a shop selling recycled goods.
