Building Design of Darwin Court by JesticoWhiles. Darwin Court is a mixed-use residential community for the care of patients over 50 years old, comprising apartments, fitness, healthcare and training facilities.
The building is a model for sustainable design, in a non-institutional environment, fostering mutual help, wellbeing and social activities, in variety of private, semi-private and public spaces.
The design focuses on the grouping of 76 apartments around two large stair cores, each with shared south-facing balconies. The apartments are arranged on five levels above the ground floor community facilities, which include a swimming pool, exercise area, restaurant, computer training room, healthcare suite and frail elderly care centre.
All flats are designed to Lifetime Homes standards, making them easily adaptable to suit the disabilities of the occupiers.
