The promenade is a transitional space between them. At the old Goodwood the weighing-in building obstructed the flow to the grandstand.

The solution was to keep the essential layout, but to manipulate the levels to create a terraced mound with seating for spectators, overlooking the parade ground and enclosure, and to build a new weighing-in building, with jockeys changing rooms and space for the BBC, as part of the retaining structure underneath.

The promenade itself was then remodelled with mature trees and three new pavilions were built, for catering and hospitality. The pavilions share a similar form.

They have central serveries, surrounded by space for tables, but no enclosing walls to impede views in any direction. Their structure, too, radiates from the centre, with two masts supporting a PVC membrane, which gives a suitable summery feel.
