Architecture Design of 550 Bourke Street, Melbourne by Batessmart. Occupying the south-west section of the CBW site, this office tower is configured to ensure maximum sun penetration to the public space below. The tower has a slim profile and curved façade to achieve this, giving it a distinctly different shape and treatment from its neighbour at 181 William Street.
At ground level, 550 Bourke Street boasts a fully glazed entry lobby to the offices. Above, the stratified façade seeks to achieve compositional balance alongside the larger towers that line Bourke Street. The projecting, profiled, horizontal aluminium transoms present a rich and textured surface.
On the Goldsbrough Lane elevation, the curved façade consists of dark coloured curtain wall glazing. The contrasting treatments mean that each of the CBW towers can be clearly read against the other.
