Architecture Building of Fillmore Streetscape and Urban Design Improvements San Francisco, CA by MWA Architects.
The focus of MWA’s work for the Fillmore Streetscape and Urban Design Improvements is the remodeled Geary Boulevard overpass that features glass and steel canopies and bands of blue glass walls designed by the internationally known artist Mildred Howard, together with a poem called “Blue” etched into the glass, proclaiming the history of the Fillmore jazz and blues district by poet Quincy Troupe.
The new bridge structures visually connect upper and lower Fillmore into a single unified street and create a highly visible marker of the Fillmore neighborhood from Geary Boulevard below.
MWA worked extensively with neighborhood groups to build support for the project, and to coordinate multiple City agencies.
